World population continues to grow and is expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050.[1]<\/a> Demand for food is exploding. Supply, however, is under pressure. Studies have shown that crop yields have been decreasing due to climate change and extreme daytime temperatures.[2]<\/a> Climate change has also affected the availability of water. Since the 1970s the land area affected by drought has doubled.[3]<\/a> Arable land is becoming more scarce.[4]<\/a><\/p>\n
