There's been a lot of hype about how we can make car travel more environmentally-friendly. But we already have an environmentally-friendly alternative, trains, which can be made even more effective and sustainable with the right attention and resources.
Amtrak is the government subsidized and sole National Passenger Railroad Operator in the United States.聽 Through outdated requirements and the inability to secure funding for long term investments, Amtrak has accumulated annual losses of greater than $1 Billion every year since its inception.聽
鈥淚t鈥檚 not about the profit for these long-distance national network trains,鈥� Mr. Boardman said in an interview. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about connecting our country together and taking care of the people鈥檚 needs in those areas that are being flown over.鈥�
