Consumers are no longer shopping simply for ease of convenience, often driving them online, but many are looking for an experience, even better an interactive experience, while they shop. Research from Sonar, J. Walter Thompson\u2019s proprietary research unit, shows that consumers, especially those age 13-17 of Generation Z, are \u201cexpectant of the experiential nature of stores\u2026 79% are more likely to visit stores that offer interactive experiences that help customize products.\u201d<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a> Additionally, 72% of U.S. millennial consumers surveyed by Sonar \u201cbelieve that as [AI] technology develops, brands using AI will be able to accurately predict what they want,\u201d<a href=\"#_edn2\" name=\"_ednref2\">[ii]<\/a> which consumers see as beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>Lowe\u2019s, similar to other big-name retailers such as Macy\u2019s and Kohl\u2019s, has been hurt financially as consumers continue to shop more and more online.<a href=\"#_edn3\" name=\"_ednref3\">[iii]<\/a> To combat actions such as showrooming, the act of checking out items in a physical store before buying them online<a href=\"#_edn4\" name=\"_ednref4\">[iv]<\/a>, brick and mortar retailers have taken great strides towards creating an omnichannel experience to engage consumers both in stores and in their own online platforms.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the Lowe\u2019s Innovation Labs launched the Holoroom, \u201ca virtual reality home improvement design and visualization tool that empowers homeowners with an immersive, intuitive experience in the room of their dreams.\u201d<a href=\"#_edn5\" name=\"_ednref5\">[v]<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lowe\u2019s Innovation Labs: The Next-Generation Lowe\u2019s Holoroom\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DVsEb9vla-I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Source<a href=\"#_edn6\" name=\"_ednref6\">[vi]<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Creating Value: <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As Lowe\u2019s proudly states on their website. \u201cVisualizing a home improvement project is hard \u2013 the Holoroom is here to help.\u201d<a href=\"#_edn7\" name=\"_ednref7\">[vii]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Holoroom enables consumers to take an idea for a DIY project and turn it into a reality. Wearing Oculus HMD goggles, a consumer is able to design a room while the Lowe\u2019s team member adjusts paint colors, counter top and cabinet finishes, appliances and fixtures etc. into the perfect room. Given the stress many consumers face regarding a DIY project, the Holoroom helps reduce the concern that design decisions will clash or rooms will not meet the consumer\u2019s vision. The success of Holoroom has pushed Lowe\u2019s Innovation Labs to invest additional R&amp;D into VR projects resulting in the more recent launches of Holoroom How To, HoloLens, Lowe\u2019s Vision, LoweBot, and more.<a href=\"#_edn13\" name=\"_ednref13\">[xiii]<\/a> Each new technology further connects the consumer to the great resources, products, and services provided by Lowe\u2019s. Additionally, as VR becomes a reality in consumer\u2019s homes, Lowe\u2019s will need to ensure the software of Holoroom and Holoroom How To is easily accessible for all types of HMD from the comfort of the consumer\u2019s home.
